I ended up in recruitment in 2019, by accident. I’d had bad experiences with recruiters myself — and heard plenty more from others. Competitors bulk-sending CVs without reading them. Brands hiring badly because nobody took the time to understand what they were actually building. Salesy recruiters who just kept pushing. I wanted to do it differently.
But the bigger realisation came later: talent is only part of the answer. Being labelled a “recruiter” was limiting what I could actually do for my network. Because the problem isn’t always headcount. Sometimes it’s a fractional CMO for strategic direction. Sometimes it’s a freelancer who can move fast. Sometimes it’s an agency working as an extension of the team.
